Silicon Dioxide Covalent Crystal Structure Model Kit – 68 Atoms
Silicon Dioxide Covalent Crystal Structure Model Kit – 68 Atoms
SKU:51SDC
Silicon dioxide (SiO2) covalent crystal structure model kit for demonstrating the three-dimensional giant covalent network found in silicon dioxide and crystalline quartz.
Each silicon atom bonds to four oxygen atoms, while each oxygen atom bonds to two silicon atoms, producing a continuous three-dimensional network. The model helps students visualise the tetrahedral arrangement around silicon centres and the bonding responsible for the structure of silicon dioxide.
What's Included
- 26 grey silicon atoms – 23 mm diameter – 4 holes at 109 degrees 28 minutes
- 42 red oxygen atoms – 17 mm diameter – 2 holes at 180 degrees
- 82 translucent short bonds – 11 mm length
- 68 atom parts in total
