Archimedes Sticks – Set of 3

Archimedes Sticks – Set of 3

SKU:45AS

These Archimedes Sticks are a set of three graduated metal prisms designed to demonstrate buoyancy, water displacement and Archimedes’ principle in school physics experiments.

The aluminium, brass and stainless steel sticks have identical dimensions but different masses and densities. Students can compare their apparent weight when suspended in water and investigate how buoyant force depends on the volume of water displaced rather than the material of the stick.

Key Features

  • Set of three metal sticks: aluminium, brass and stainless steel
  • Square cross-section with engraved 1 cm graduations on all four sides
  • Identical dimensions allow direct comparison between different materials
  • Each centimetre of submerged length displaces 1 cm³ of water
  • Suitable for hands-on investigations of buoyancy and apparent weight

Educational Applications

  • Measure the change in apparent weight as each stick is lowered into water using a suitable Newton meter or spring balance
  • Relate submerged depth to displaced water volume and buoyant force
  • Compare the buoyant force on different materials at the same submerged depth
  • Demonstrate Archimedes’ principle without needing a displacement can to measure displaced volume

Specifications

  • Contents: Three graduated metal sticks
  • Materials: Aluminium, brass and stainless steel
  • Dimensions: 1 × 1 × 11 cm per stick
  • Graduations: 1 cm intervals, engraved on all four sides

Important Note

A suitable Newton meter or spring balance and a container of water are required for the experiments; these are not included in the set.
