Whirling Sound Pipe – 73 cm, 5 Frequencies
Whirling Sound Pipe – 73 cm, 5 Frequencies
SKU:46SP
The Whirling Sound Pipe is a 73 cm corrugated plastic tube designed to demonstrate sound waves, resonance and harmonics in school physics lessons. When swung in a circular motion, air moving through the tube produces an audible tone.
As the pipe is whirled faster, the pitch increases in distinct steps rather than continuously. This occurs because of the resonant frequencies and harmonics of the tube. Up to five different tones can be produced.
Key Features
- Produces up to five distinct tones when whirled
- Demonstrates sound frequency, resonance and harmonics
- Pitch changes in steps as the rotation speed increases
- Corrugated plastic construction
- Suitable for classroom sound and waves demonstrations
