Twin Tone Bar Set – 440 & 441 Hz Resonance and Beats
Twin Tone Bar Set – 440 & 441 Hz Resonance and Beats
SKU:46TTBS
The Twin Tone Bar Set is a classroom physics apparatus designed to demonstrate resonance, sympathetic vibration and the beat phenomenon.
Featuring two precision-made tone bars tuned to 440 Hz and 441 Hz, the apparatus allows students to investigate how closely spaced sound frequencies interact. Both bars are mounted on a solid resonance cavity with two chambers, providing a practical way to explore sound and vibration.
Key Features
- Two precision-made tone bars tuned to 440 Hz and 441 Hz
- Demonstrates resonance and sympathetic vibration
- Illustrates the beat phenomenon using two closely spaced frequencies
- Solid, two-chamber resonance cavity
- Includes hammer and instructions
- Suitable for school physics and acoustics demonstrations
How It Works
Beat Frequency
When both tone bars are sounded, their slightly different frequencies combine to produce a periodic variation in sound intensity, known as beats.
The expected beat frequency is 441 Hz − 440 Hz = 1 Hz, corresponding to approximately one beat per second. This provides an accessible demonstration of wave superposition.
Resonance and Sympathetic Vibration
The apparatus also supports investigations into resonance and sympathetic vibration, helping students understand how vibrating systems interact and transfer energy.
